Porcelain Paper Clay Lanterns

Join ceramic artist, Rhi Jarman, to create your own festive ceramic lanterns using porcelain paper clay. 

In this 2.5 hour pottery workshop, you will hand-build and decorate a lantern using a variety of mark making and textures. Rhi will demonstrate how to shape porcelain paper clay to bring out its translucency once fired.

Students will experiment with texturising and mark making using porcelain paper clay to design and create a ceramic lantern. Skills outcomes include 3D design, hand building, mark making, texturising and fettling.

Your lantern will remain unglazed to highlight the textures in the semi translucent porcelain, which will shine beautifully when candle lit. One lantern per student will be stoneware fired in our kilns following this pottery workshop.

This pottery workshop is suitable for complete beginners, or for novice or intermediate potters to gain confidence with new materials and techniques. All materials and firings are included in the price.

FAQs

Can I take my work home?

Yes, your unique piece will be glazed and fired in our electric kilns. Firing can take up to 4 weeks, we will contact you when your pieces are ready to collect.

Can I get a refund if I can’t make it to the class?

Let us know as soon as you can, if you want to cancel your booking. If you let us know more than 14 days ahead of the course start date, you will receive a full refund, minus a 10% admin fee. Within 14 days of the course starting, you will not be able to receive a refund, unless your place on the course is filled by someone else. If your place is filled by someone else, you will be offered another date for the workshop, or credit to use against another course.
