This course is aimed at beginners, providing an introduction to hand building and decorative methods. You will come away with your own hand-made beautiful pieces, each exploring different techniques.

What is included?

In this course we’ll be exploring basic hand building techniques which provide the building blocks for any form you can think of. This includes slab building, coil building, pinch pots, and using molds. Each piece you create will act as a surface for a different decorative technique, including slip stencilling, wax resist, glazing, and textured surfaces. There will be a selection of glazes on offer and you will come away with a basic understanding of how clays, slips, glazes and kiln firings interact with one another. All materials and firings are included.

Please note This class will be in our first-floor studio space, unfortunately this space is only accessible via stairs. Please get in touch to discuss any access needs.

After your course, your pieces will be fired in our electric kilns. This process can take up to 6 weeks. You will be contacted via email when your pots are ready to collect.

What happens if I miss a session?

We cannot offer any refunds or catch up sessions if you miss a class. But don’t worry, your tutor will chat to you about what you missed. You are welcome to book onto an Open Session to finish your pieces and make up the time. Please note that these sessions do not include any tuition.

How long does the kiln firing take?

The firing process can take up to 6 weeks, we will contact you when your pieces are ready to collect.

Can I change or cancel my booking?

Let us know as soon, if you want to cancel or change your booking. This must be done in writing via email at least 14 days ahead of the course start date, in order to receive a refund (minus a 10% admin fee) or swap your booking to a new date. Within 14 days of the course or workshop, no refunds or transfers can be made, unless your place is filled by someone else. If your place is filled, you will be be able to reschedule your workshop, or use equal credit to use against another course. Please see our Terms and Conditions.
