Your tutor Pascale will teach you the hand building techniques needed to transform a ball of clay into a functional or sculptural piece. You will then learn how to use coloured slips to add surface decoration to your piece.

In this workshop you will learn how to pinch, coil and sculpt your own unique form, which could be a mug, bowl or vase.

These techniques will help you to understand the feel and structure of clay, and are a great starting point for more complex forms. You will leave this workshop with confidence and fundamental skills in hand building.
Your piece will be glazed in your own choice of coloured glaze by our technicians after the workshop. This session is for adults only.

Make Your Own Colourful Mug
In this creative and colourful workshop, you’ll make and decorate your own mug. You’ll be guided through each step, to make your mug shape and then be able to decorate in a range of colours.
This 2-hour workshop is perfect if you want to try pottery for the first time, learn a surface decoration technique to add bold designs. By the end of the session, you will have created your very own beautiful and functional piece of pottery to enjoy at home.
Ceramic Mushrooms
Join ceramic artist, Rhi Jarman, to create your own mushroom decorations using porcelain paper clay.
In this workshop, you will hand build and decorate a hanging mushroom bell decoration and a mushroom ring dish/jewellery holder. Rhi will demonstrate a variety of techniques including pinching, hollowing, sculpting, and how to use porcelain paper clay to create fine natural textures. You will also have the opportunity to add colour using underglazes and oxides.

Ocean Textures Bowl
Join ceramic artist, Rhi Jarman, to create and decorate your own ocean inspired ceramic bowls.
In this workshop, Rhi will show you how to make a decorative bowl or dish from a clay slab and coils using a slump mould. You will then alter and decorate the form using a variety of texturising methods such as sprig (press) moulds, stamps, modelling and slip work.

We will cover the fundamental techniques used when hand-building in clay, and you’ll be guided through the build process.
You will then learn about sgraffito techniques which allow for the creation of block colour and pattern, through to detailed illustration.
